| We started out for a ten day trip up through Arizona rockhounding and sightseeing. Our itinerary was Cave Creek National forest north of Phoenix, Grand Canyon, Zion national park, Canyonlands National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park and a couple of rock hounding places in Utah before heading home.
At Cave Creek, We did not find anything at any of the marked rock hound locations in the book, however, when we parked at the CCC campground and I took Katie for a walk, I discovered tons of red jasper in a creek bed next to the camp. Hooray, we are the discoverers of "Katie's Cache" A new source of red jasper in Arizona.
The next day we drove up to the Grand Canyon and entered the park. Great that national parks are free and camping half-price now that I have a Golden Age Passport. We decided to go to the Bright Angel Lodge for supper and walk the canyon rim the next morning. When we returned from the lodge that evening, the refridgerator was not running and it was getting warm inside. THe next morning it was pouring rain and looked to be that way all day so we decided to move on to Zion. When we stopped for breakfast and to get ice for the cooler we saw that we had been hit in the parking lot last night (See picture below) It looked like with the accident, the rain, and the fridge, that the cards were stacked against us so we turned around and drove the whole way home.
